Mark Gonzales

"Gonz"

WHO THE F*CK IS THIS GUY?

The “Gonz” is one of the biggest pioneers of modern street skateboarding and has been pushing the sport forward ever since he first started skating at age 13 in his hometown of South Gate, California.

By 15, Gonzales was already diverging from the styles of street skaters like Tommy Gurrero and developing his own approach that involved him constantly looking for ways to innovate and create new tricks. By 1984 he had already been featured on the cover of Thrasher when the dude was only 18 years old.

Nowadays Gonzales is an artist, director, poet, and author in addition to being an OG skater with sponsorships from just about every major name in skating.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE.

The first person to skate handrails. The first person to ollie the Wallenberg Set (four-blocks, nineteen foot long, four feet tall). Need we go on? One of the most influential street skaters in history, he’s even got an obstacle at The Embarcadero named after him — the Gonz Gap.
