Daewong Song

2016 "Skater of the Year" and 2017 Skate HOF Inductee

WHO THE F*CK IS THIS GUY?

Show some respect for the 2006 Thrasher Skater of the Year—one of the most important honors in the entire world of skateboarding. Born in South Korea and raised in Gardena, California, Song started skateboarding at age 14 at the same time that he was winning art contests and getting paid as an artist. Yup. You read that right.

Song eventually got hooked up with Rodney Mullen, who admired his skills, and from there, his career began to take off. He rode for and appeared in videos for World Industries starting in 1992, and since then it’s been a long line of successes, revolutions, and victories in some of the world’s most respected skating competitions. In 2018, he founded Thank You skateboards alongside Torey Pudwill. Daewong has been called, and is, one of the most influential skateboarders ever.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE.

Song showed the world how much control a person could have over their skateboard. He brought technical skill and style together— and he did it while going at crazy speeds.
